Another comical event that happened last week was when a family from the church in Palmares invited Justin and me to come eat at their home, along with Dimas and Enny. The family is from Colombia, and had planned a traditional Colombian meal for us. We were supposed to arrive at their home at 12:00 to eat, but due to the fact that we are in Costa Rica and life doesn't happen on time, we arrived at their home at 1:45 (Actually one of Dimas' brothers-in-law came to visit, who lives in another state, so we couldn't really just leave right when he got here). Upon arrival, the lady started kind of going crazy and talking about how she had been trying to call us and how she thought we weren't coming. And since she couldn't get ahold of us by phone, she invited the neighbors over to eat the meal!!! So we apologized and waited while she made some more rice and beans and this awesome salad. Even though we missed out on the meat, it was still a great meal.

Caminando con Dios
Tuesday we spent the day at the warehouse/shop making clothes racks and sorting clothes.
We got back home late for church at 7:15 or so.
Also this past Tuesday night we invited Cesar, Wendy, Rony, Mauricio, y Martita to eat at our house for supper. This was a ton of fun. Cesar is one of the funniest people i have ever met. Maui and Martita are super sweet, and it was a lot of fun cooking for them.
Today Mexico and Costa Rica played, which had a super bowl atmosphere. The front page of the newspaper yesterday had a Costa Rican player on it, and titled above was "We are going to war". Costa Rica just lost 3-0, and everyone is super bummed.

Sik Wit It
On Monday we got up early (5:30) and set out to go fishing in the gulf on the Pacific side of the country...we got the boat onto the trailer we made last week, only to find out that it was set a little to low and the boat rubbed the tires whenever we hit a small bump. We ended up driving about an hour to Palmares where we stopped at a Mechanic shop that one of the church members owned there. We basically worked on the trailer for a few hours and hung out with that family (the car shop was beside their home). The hospitality they showed was amazing to us as we waited. After a few appetizers of some kind of grilled bread, we feasted on this chicken and rice dish that was unbelievable...the woman who made the food had no choice but to be a good cook as her name was Iris! After finally getting the trailer fixed, we arrived to the gulf in the afternoon and started fishing....we probably caught about 15 or so salt-water catfish before heading home around 9:00pm or so. It was fun just to roadtrip it with the family.
On Sunday, we once again participated in the church services at the two different churches. Justin had been working all week on putting all of the songs onto a new program called "Easy Worship 2007" to have the words for the congregation and was able to have a few songs ready for the service Sunday morning.
One of the highlights of last week for me was one day when Justin and I took Enny and Wendy to the town square in Alajuela for them to buy a few things they needed. As Justin and I waited for them as they shopped (I was hoping that the whole guys waiting while the women spend endless hours shopping was going to be an avoidable evil upon coming to Costa Rica, but I believe that is a worldwide phenomenon), there was a guy on the street who was obviously homeless. To make a long story short, I was able to show him some love simply by treating him as a human and listening. He is a 25 year old alcoholic who is broken and humbled. I was thankful to be able to meet him and tell him that I would be praying for him and that I would ask my friends to pray for him. His name is David Perez; please pray that God would grant him repentance in Christ and free him from this stronghold of Satan on his life.
Another highlight of the week included eating at Cesar and Wendy's house on Sunday evening. She made a chicken lasagna with white sauce that was super good...as if that weren't enough, she followed that up with a chocolate cake! It was great just to be invited to their home and to eat...we finished up the night with a healthy soccer match which ended with a controversial 12-11 victory by Justin's team (bad guys) over the good guys (Aaron's team).
Aaron and I also had the opportunity to put our cooking skills up to the test on last Saturday. Enny was out of town for the day, so Dimas figured it would be beneficial to him, since he doesn't cook or do anything that is done in a kitchen, to ask me and Aaron to whip up a lunch for him, Wendy, Cesar, Rony, and one of Dimas' friends, who was a pastor also. We ended up cooking our specialty (grilled chicken, steak, and sauteed vegetables). The whole meal was a success, and the time spent together was very memorable. We have posted a video below that shows Dimas singing "Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord" in english... Listen for Cesar's reaction afterwards... We hope you enjoy...(people in this video: Pastor Dimas, Cesar, Wendy, and Rony is in the back)
Also posted below is a video of Cesar and what he thinks of his soccer skills. Pretty hilarious if you ask me, although it is very true...

Mother's Day
Many of the church people here work with a goodwill type of clothes store. Friday Cesar needed us to help him transport and unload clothes at the different stores. There is also a Bodega (warehouse) where they work which contains bundles of clothes. The main Bodega and store is here in Alajuela, and there are 4 other stores all over Costa Rica. It is kind of like a Goodwill that Dimas and a friend of his started. The clothes are shipped here to the main Bodega, workers separate, iron, bag-up, and ship out the clothes to all the Bodegas. This provides employment for many of the members of the church.
So back to what we did Friday, we rode with Cesar in this big truck (not an 18 wheeler, but close), hauling the clothes that needed to be shipped out to the other stores across Costa Rica. We stopped at each one, asked them what the needed, gave it to them and moved on down the road. The farthest one from here is about 3 hours away in a city called Guanacaste. This took us just about all day to do.
Saturday was Mother's Day here in Costa Rica. Dimas and his family went out to eat lunch together, so Aaron and I got another chance to ride our bikes. We decided bold and brave was the answer, so we went on about a 12-15 mile ride to the center of Alajuela. The ride there was all up-hill, which is the way we like it. No bike ride here is flat, so we would rather bike up-hill somewhere and coast on the way back. Once we got to Alajuela, we found a Pizza Hut, which was a no brainer for me. It was across from a local Costa Rican restaurant so Aaron had hesitations, but with a little enticement, it didn't take long for Aaron to come back to his American senses. For the record, this was a great decision. With some unplanned detours we made it back home safe and sound. (video below is from the center of Alajuela in the park)
That night Aaron went out serenading with the youth here at Agape to the mother's of the church for Mother's Day, while I was invited to play soccer with Diego (Diego is an awesome guy we met that is going through a tough time with his marriage; please pray for him), Carli (Carlos a.k.a. Papaya, a friend of Dimas' family), and other Ticos that I had never met at an outdoor soccer field. Although Aaron seemed more tired than I did afterwards, both the match and the caroling were enjoyable.
Yesterday we had church in the morning from 9 to 12. We had a great service. Afterwards, Aaron and I cooked lunch for Enny and Dimas. I cooked a stir-fry with Zucchini, Carrots, and Broccoli, while Aaron arranged some sort of tasty steak and good-ole American Easy Mac. Surprisingly, Dimas loved the veggies and steak, but didn't care too much for the Easy Mac. After the lunch he asked me and Aaron if we could cook this same meal (I'm guessing without the Easy Mac) for a group from Agape of about 15 to 20 people. This can also go on the prayer list:). After eating with Dimas and Enny for lunch, we raced down the road to Palmares for the service at the other church that Dimas pastors. It was another awesome experience in which we worshipped and celebrated mother's day as well.
Last night we had another soccer match in which the Gringos (Aaron and I) lost. Our feet just don't quite work like theirs yet, but we're getting there.

The Ferry
Because of the late night service on Sat., no services were held on Sunday. We slept in and then got to just enjoy an awesome meal at Carli's (Carlos) house with all of the Costa Rican dining specialties: rice and beans, meat, salad, coffee and this pancake-type dessert. It was great just to relax and spend time with the different church members.
On Monday, we took a day long trip to Guanacaste with Dimas and German, in which we had to ride a cool ferry to get across the gulf. We made it back just in time for a little soccer mejenga (match) down at the Futbol 5. (here are some pics from the ferry)

"The Great Entrance"
After "The Great Entrance", not to be confused with "The Great Escape", we went to church service where Pastor Dimas talked about 3 spiritual levels of our lives.
No soccer was played.
Today we went to Palmares to say goodbye to the group from Texas. They didn't finish it, but they did a great job of continuing the construction of what is going to be a beautiful church building with an awesome view.
On the way back home, we stopped by a small cafe for a snack and coffee; this country is beautiful.
Once we got home we started P90X with Rony and Cezar, in which we all loved, but hated. Our before pictures wont download for some reason so we'll just wait and post the after pics...
We just got back from eating at a Pizzaria with Cezar, Rony and Diego. These guys are awesome, and they make us feel like we are just a couple of Ticos. I'm really starting to enjoy myself here.
No soccer tonight. P90X was enough for us all.

Our family outside of the U.S.
Today we got moved into our new residence, in which we have posted a few pics. It is a little 2bedroom, 1 bath, living room and kitchen house with a sweet back tin-roofed patio. We flipped an envelope and Justin won the big bedroom with the double bed, the two windows, and the closet. I won the dark green room with dirty walls and the twin bed with no closet. On a serious note, the house is awesome and we're super grateful for it. Around 6 oclock tonight a lot of people from the church came over to check it out and the women ended up hanging curtains for us while Cesar enjoyed a PB & J and Dimas laid in my Mexican hammock. It was an uninvited, pleasant surprise for us. We'll try to post a video of the house tomorrow.
We are both excited that Dimas and his family seem excited that we are here. They have treated us with so much love and taken care of us. It is so nice to feel like we have a family outside of the US.
Got our first "W" on the futbol field...Justin had 2 goals...I laid the smack down with some great defense! (we had cezar on our team)
